Louis’ recent breakup with Valerie makes it quite difficult for him to preserve his friendship with her, as he’s quite used to being affectionate around her
He’s able to maintain a cheery attitude around his mates as a way to keep them from suspicion and distract himself, although his mind won’t seem to abandon Valerie once he’s alone

As Louis grows more comfortable with those he loves, others often mistake his comfort with lack of respect. Although he can subconsciously do so, he’s only not as polite because he doesn’t feel the need to act less casual.
